Our Small groups and Trevor Day School Teachers make our program unique. Trevor High School students and graduates assist as Counselors. We provide children with the space, materials, and activities with which to be challenged, to be excited and to enjoy themselves.

The program includes field trips, cooking, arts and crafts, story telling, science experiments, free play, movement.

Swimming lessons are offered for the 4, 5 and 6 year olds two days a week through Take Me to the Water, a developmental program that knows children have different comfort levels in the water. Our teachers always accompany the children. They design individual programs for each child and much more.

Water is an important part of camp! We have kiddy pools and a playground on our roof for all the kids in camp. This is a favorite of all the children.

Musical Theater Camp: Using a different, inspiring Broadway theme each session, campers will explore scenes, songs, and dance numbers. CAMP FACILITIES: Our historic facility was built in 1929 and is home to a recently renovated 145-seat proscenium theater where campers rehearse and perform showcases for friends and family. Campers swim in our facility’s heated pool under close supervision from swim instructors, camp counselors and lifeguards. Visual arts activities occur in the Arts Annex, and campers utilize multi-purpose rooms throughout the YMCA for instruction and activities.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Arts Camp's 2018 theme is ART AS ENERGY. "Giving children tools on how to interpret their experience in a body, helps empower them to make decisions. They learn to listen to themselves and direct their energy in a conscious way that will allow them to settle into themselves and their authentic power." (Leanne Holitza). This summer, we will focus on 4 energetic centers in the body and how these energy centers may inspire artistic expression, creativity, and community. We will begin at the naval center with an exploration of courage, determination, and commitment. Next, we move to the heart to explore harmony, peace, love, and compassion. Third, we move to the throat center to explore communication, self-expression, listening, and truth. Finally, we land on the 3rd eye, where campers will meditate on intuition, vision, wisdom, balance, and curiousity.

On Thursdays at 4 PM of weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8, each group performs in an informal showcase for family and friends in the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater. Throughout the summer in all 4 art forms, students explore age-appropriate curriculum that celebrates the dance, theater, music, and visual art as it relates to the summer's over-arching program theme. In addition to arts classes, all campers swim twice a week, go on arts-related field trips around NYC, and, weather permitting, enjoy Central Park for lunch, fresh air, yoga, and team-building creative activities.

Ramapo for Children offers college students a valuable and highly unique summer job experience through one of our programs: Camp Ramapo. Ramapo runs one of the few residential summer camps that specifically serves children with social, emotional, and learning challenges. CAMP FACILITIES: Camp Yomawha features beautiful woodlands, a mountain stream, a lake for boating, private swimming pool, climbing wall, state-of-the-art playground and various athletic fields. YMCA Camp Weona offers both traditional and high adventure activities. YMCA Camp Weona serves children 7 to 17 years old with exciting summer camp options for one, or two or more week stays. CAMP PROGRAM INFO: We pride ourselves in selecting staff that are role models of honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility. As a result, the YMCA Camp Weona culture and setting are safe, fun, and enriching physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. We recruit from local high schools and colleges, as well as all over the country and around the world. All staff participate in an intensive week-long residential training that includes safety management, working with children in group settings, leading activities, camp policies and procedures, and child abuse prevention. Necessary staff members are lifeguard, CPR, and first aid certified as well as other nationally-recognized certifications. YMCA Camp Weona takes the health and safety of our campers very seriously.

We have a 6:1 camper-to-leader ratio which assures close supervision of all activities. During the summer session a fulltime health officer lives on site and a physician is on call 24 hours a day. Also, YMCA Camp Weona is certified by the New York State Health Department and has periodic inspections throughout the summer. YMCA Camp Weona is accredited by the American Camp Association (ACA). ACA is a non-profit organization that member camps join voluntarily. For nearly two decades, YMCA Camp Weona has been a member of this organization and on a semi-annual basis is visited by ACA, which verifies that we are maintaining over 300 standards of operation in camping. These are industry standards and recognized by the government.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: Building on the tradition of “super” leadership, the YMCA believes in growing our future leaders as well as enhancing our teen population’s skill base. Leaders in Training (LIT) is geared toward teens who are ready to test their leadership skills while working with younger campers. All LITs must demonstrate the YMCA’s core values, have a service mentality, and strong desire to learn and grow leadership skills. Participating as an LIT may count toward high school community service hours for graduation. CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS OR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: At YMCA Camp Weona, we believe that every child should have the chance to experience camp. The YMCA Strong Kids Campaign provides financial assistance to families within our community who are in need of financial support and may not have the ability to pay the full fee. Financial assistance is determined based on a thorough review of an application and a personal interview with the applicant. Assistance will be granted on the basis of financial need resulting from low income, emergency expenses or other circumstances that inhibit an individual’s ability to pay a prescribed fee. As part of our mission, we teach campers responsibility with an opportunity to Earn Their Way to Camp. Campers may choose to pay for part or all of their camp fees through the annual YMCA Camp Candy Sale which runs from January through July.

OTHER CAMP INFO: YMCA Camp Weona is a “Group Work” Camp. At YMCA Camp Weona, our rustic cabins provide a home for small groups of no more than 12 campers who live together and attend daily activities as a group. Cabin groups are made up of either boys or girls entering similar grades and registered for the same camp program. Groups of 8-12 campers of similar gender and age attend daily activities together as a cabin with their leaders. The intention is to foster a “family-like” atmosphere within the group. Menu - Our back-to-basics menu is prepared each day in the dining hall. The YMCA offers items that children enjoy in their daily life that help sustain the additional energy needed during long days at camp. Our food service staff prides themselves on the fact that there are no trans fats in our meals. Special consideration is given for children who have allergies or prefer a vegetarian option.

Cabin/Bunk Mates - Campers may request a bunk mate within one school grade of each other, are of the same gender, and are registered for the same program. A bunk mate request is included in the parent pack and must be returned three weeks prior to attendance. Requests made after the three-week deadline may not be honored. In order to promote inclusion within each cabin, only one bunk mate request per child will be honored. (Bunk mates must be reciprocal – ex. John picks Tim and Tim must pick John.) Groups of four or more may be split to promote new camper inclusion.

CAMP FACILITIES: We are 70% in doors and utilize our building that is equipped with a large auditorium, indoor swimming pool, play yard, large gymnasium with 16 foot rock wall and adaptive rock wall for rock climbing, computer lab, teen lounge that includes computers, gaming systems, tv screen and a pool table, 6.5 classrooms and we utilize all field space in the near by areas as well as go on trips once week.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We have both CIT and LIT programs. For CITs our goal is to give them experience on the field and off the field while giving them time to have fun as teens. We integrate them into groups of kids from our younger divisions to get camp experience, we hold workshops for them to learn different skills, and integrate them into our teen division as campers to have some fun. For our LITs, we have adopted the CDOS (Continual Development of Skills) system, where every week a new skill will be introduced. Our leaders will need to practice the skill the whole week. This program is intended for our leaders to grow skills and practice them while working. These programs are designed to help our staff grow within our program and for our staff to learn vital skills which they can use outside of the camp world.

CAMP FACILITIES: Children live in wood-framed and screened cabins by age group, yet choose activities and wilderness trips individually. We have a wide range of activities in camp, and an extensive wilderness program - hiking, canoeing, kayaking, sailing throughout the Adirondack region.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The North Country Camps - Camp Lincoln for Boys and Camp Whippoorwill for Girls - are adventurous and fun full-season resident camps located in the Adirondack region of NY State. We offer a program that emphasizes individual choice, and we offer a wide range of activities in camp including horseback riding, sailing, canoeing, swimming, windsurfing, kayaking, bicycling, soccer, baseball, softball, ultimate frisbee, volleyball, tennis, archery, art, drama, dance, and woodshop.

We also offer an extensive Wilderness Trip program. The trips -day trips, overnights, and 3, 4, 5 day trips - include hiking, backpacking, canoeing, bicycling, riding, and sailing. Campers live in cabin groups of five or six campers with one counselor. Overall camper:counselor ratio is 3:1. The majority of campers attend for the full 7 1/2 week season, and we also have a 5 week option. First-time campers may enroll for 3 weeks with the option to stay.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: New Country Day Camp is an oasis for children growing up in New York City. All of our campers and staff ride the camp bus from stops in North Brooklyn and downtown Manhattan to the beautiful Henry Kaufman Campgrounds on Staten Island. Our older campers spend their mornings with their friends in camp groups of kids their age. In their groups, they'll have an opportunity to try all of our camp programs. CAMP FACILITIES: Our natural wooded setting, outstanding facilities, and breathtaking waterfront provide campers endless opportunities for outdoor fun.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Campers enjoy a balanced schedule that includes group periods and choice periods each day. During group periods, campers participate in group activities that ensure group bonding and a well-rounded summer.
